Photodynamic therapy is a safe and effective method for destroying abnormal cells. It combines light energy with a special drug that enhances your skin’s response to light. This destroys cancer cells, kills acne bacteria, and improves skin texture. Check out our PDT Therapy photos of actual patients at Dr Laniewski clinic in Sydney.

The procedure can give you the following benefits:

- Destroys various types of early skin cancers
- Eliminates the need for surgery
- Improves your skin texture
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
- Restores your skin’s youthful glow
How the treatment works
During the procedure, a special drug that enhances your skin’s response to light will be applied to your skin. A device that delivers a special type of light will be then placed over the target area. When activated by light energy, the drug becomes toxic to abnormal cells. This in turn destroys cancer cells and acne bacteria.
For skin rejuvenation, the procedure heats your skin to stimulate collagen production. Collagen helps maintain your skin’s structure and texture. This results in a smoother, radiant, and younger-looking skin.
For skin discoloration, the procedure heats the skin pigment called melanin. This is responsible for the color of your skin. When destroyed, the treated area becomes lighter and smoother.
For abnormal blood vessels, the heat destroys the blood vessels. As a result, they start to collapse and are absorbed by your body. Over time, the treated area becomes smoother and healthier.
What to expect after the treatment
After the procedure, you may feel a burning sensation in the treated area. This is normal and will disappear after a few hours. As your skin heals, you need to avoid direct sun exposure to prevent further injury. This is because your skin is sensitive to light after the treatment. So, it is best to stay indoors and wear protective clothing. You should also avoid irritating skincare products to prevent discomforts.
